Brief narrative description of project elements and activities:
Establishment
of Youth Action Forums.
Youth Action Forums (YAFs) will serve as the primary vehicle for organizing
youths in each targeted areas. Overall, approximately 2000 youths will
participate in the YAFs. Within each targeted area, one or more YAF Centers
will be designated and serve as the focal point for organizing and executing
the grant activities. The three principal activities to be conducted under
the grant are 1) educational activities, 2) community enhancement projects,
and 3) national conference for participants.
Educational
Activities: The educational activities can be broken down into the following
areas: 1) civic awareness, citizenship, and community service, 2)
basic skills for career development (computer, negotiation,
leadership), and 3) basic skills for developing community
enhancement projects. Educational activities may be conducted at the YAF Center or other venue, and may involve classroom instruction,
interactive learning, summer camps, and/or retreats Educational
activities will be the focus of the first 10 months of the grant.
Community
Enhancement Projects:
Program participants will be
divided into groups of approximately 100 youths and each group
will be responsible for developing and implementing a community
enhancement project which is intended to benefit the broader
community within each targeted area.It may involve,for
example
development of a new park, playground, or other public space,establishment
of a community organization, execution of

a
public education campaign for the entire community, or other
project that serves to good of all Iraqis in a targeted area Development and implementation of community enhancement
projects will be the focus of the second 10 months of the grant.
National
Conference:
The
culmination of grant will be a national conference for the youth
participants during which each they will present the results of their
community enhancement projects. A panel of community and national
leaders will evaluate and select the top five projects for
recognition.
Optional:
An optional activity for the grant would be participation in international
symposium related to civic engagement or community service focused on
youths.The total number of participants would be no more than 50 youths.
Beneficiary population and area of geographic impact in Iraq:
This project will focus on young Iraqi men and women, ages 13 to 25 in the
following ten areas in Iraq: 1.

7.
North
Babylon 8.
Basra 9.
Karbala 10.
Wassit
